Friday Wrap for April 14th, 2017 (Good Friday)

Mickey Straub Receives Congressional Record for 50 Capitols Trip

Welcome to the Friday Wrap for April 14th, 2017.  After a very busy week and with Easter weekend upon us, I took most of Good Friday off.  But here is what happened around the village, which I am finishing from our very own Starbucks.  (This place is packed on a Saturday!)

Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Board of Trustees:
Monday’s meeting had a full agenda, starting with how Congressman Peter Roskam Surprised me…Big Time! The Congressman was on the agenda to present something about recognition, but I figured it had to do with the Village of Burr Ridge.  I was absolutely shocked and humbled when he and the U. S. House of Representatives chose to recognize my 50 Capitols in 50 Days trip as an official Congressional Record.  Congressman Roskam read it aloud, made a few comments about Abraham Lincoln and the need to celebrate and defend our country’s past.  In lieu of a Friday Wrap video this week, we prepared a video clip of Congressman Peter Roskam’s brief presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zq2OW4ArjzI.

On Monday, the Village Board unanimously approved the Budget for Fiscal Year 2017-18, Annexation of some property, a slight rise in water rates, the request to do a Speed Limit Study on German Church Road, and several other items.  For complete details, please visit the village website.

But probably the most promising item approved was that of the special use of the old Coldwater Creek space to serve food, alcohol and live entertainment, a high-end seafood restaurant called the Hampton Social.  It is a successful group that already has another location or two in downtown Chicago.  We will keep you updated as it progresses!

Other News, Events and Progress this week, include:

  • The first of two Waste Hauler Public Hearings was conducted on Wednesday at the BRPD.
  • Harvester Place held a special “Plaque” ceremony which was almost like a Grand Opening; even CEO and Founder Mark Rockwell came in for the faith-based presentation for this growing, national organization that serves and protects those with memory loss.
  • In addition, we were contacted regarding the benefits of LED lighting in the village and I received a letter and personal note from the chairman of the Illinois Tollway Authority, Bob Schillerstrom encouraging future feedback and communication.

On some Semi-Personal Notes...I had the pleasure of trying out the new 1st Family Dental(after cracking a tooth) and they are as advanced and professional as expected! What a great addition to the village!!

Plus, I was contacted by the former manager of the Village Center with an unusual request…to borrow my car!  Scott Rolston, who now runs NEW CITY, a Lifestyle and Entertainment District in Lincoln Park, was having a special debut of the newly released movie called Fate of the Furious, which is a sequel of Fast & Furious.  Apparently, the Dodge Challenger is the car of choice, so he asked to display my car at their Red Carpet event.  (FYI…I grew up a car guy, so in my world, this was pretty cool!)

And, last but not least, we attended one of Alysa’s last few college tennis tournaments, played against UIC downtown.  These last few matches will be bitter-sweet.

Have a Happy Easter and a Blessed Week, Mayor Mickey
