Friday Wrap for April 21st, 2017 (Including Burr Ridge Resident wins Mrs. Illinois America, etc.)

Welcome to the Friday Wrap for April 21st, 2017.  Here’s what happened – and is happening – around the village!

BIG Burr Ridge News in Mrs. Illinois America Pageant:
For the first time ever, a Burr Ridge contestant, EDYTA SMOLKA entered the Mrs. Illinois America Pageant...and she WON!!  Edyta and her husband, Peter (a good friend of mine), are both entrepreneurs, over-achievers, from Poland...and a real inspiration to us all! (It was my first pageant, too:)  The Pageant also supports our Jingle Mingle each year by sending the Mrs. Illinois and Ms. Junior Illinois to ride in the parade and read storybooks to children in Barbara’s Book Store.  So, when the organizer called to say that Burr Ridge had their first entrant…I just had to go…and I almost fell out of the chair!  CONGRATULATIONS EDYTA (and Peter)…that hard work paid off
Gower Student wins Science Competition: Solar Panel usage and energy may be above my head, but there is a student from Burr Ridge who has done his research.  Drhuv Vaze and his mother, Nina, met with me and David Preissig, Director of Public Works, to discuss his findings in Solar Panels and to encourage expanded usage in the village.  I believe Drhuv, a Gower student, will now compete in higher level competition.
CROWNE PLAZA Schedules Grand Opening: After almost a year of an incredible transformation, the CROWNE PLAZA has their Grand Opening Event scheduled for April 27th and is set to fully open for business and events by May 1st.  I will keep you posted.
Dupage Mayors and Managers Conference (DMMC) Meeting Held: Our soon-to-be Village Administrator, Doug Pollock, joined Steve Stricker and I for his first DMMC Business Meeting this week!  Besides electing new officers, we were there to honor three outgoing mayors: Joe Broda (Lisle), Gayle Smolinski (Roselle) and Deborah Bullwinkel (Villa Park).
Mayor Interviewed on ABC7 Chicago: This week, I was also asked to join a group of Donald Trump supporters to get our impressions of his first 100 days in office.  We were interviewed by Kathy Broch for an hour which will be edited and released over the coming weeks. We were also able to get a tour of the ABC7 Studio and met daytime Anchor Judy Hsu and Meteorologist Larry Mowry.
Chicago Tribune Article about Roskam Recognition:
Here’s the latest Tribune/Doings article written by Kevin Beese.  The shock may have passed, but I am still feeling honored and humbled by Congressman Peter J. Roskam and the U. S. House of Representatives officially recognizing my 50 Capitols in 50 Days trip as an official Congressional Record.  And I remain hopeful that more people will be inspired by Lincoln…and to achieve BIG GOALS…Short Deadlines!
On some Semi-Personal Notes...

  • Our house just got 10 years younger…with the installation of new garage doors!!  If you’ve ever considered it…it’s probably a lot less expensive than you might expect.  I’d highly recommend Green T Garage Doors (630-440-5667)
  • This weekend, our daughter may be competing in her final College Tennis Tournament, and her tennis career spanning ten years!  The outcome of these next two matches will determine if they qualify going to Regionals!

That’s a Wrap…have an awesome week, Mickey
