Friday Wrap for April 7th, 2017 - (Mayor Mickey Gets Re-elected + 2 New Trustees)

Welcome to the Friday Wrap for March 31st, 2017! Here is a link to this week’s Friday Wrap Video:

Consolidated Election HIGHLIGHTS:

The Consolidation Elections were held this week and Burr Ridge will now officially have two new trustees, Anita Mital and Zach Mottl; incumbent Trustee Guy Franzese and I also ran unopposed.  We will all be sworn-in at the May 8th Board Meetingtentatively by Federal Judge Susan E. Cox, thanks to Zach Mottl. “Thank you Burr Ridge for allowing me to serve you for a second term! Between the people who I have met, the lessons learned and the opportunity to serve and make a difference, the experience is truly priceless!!!”
In other election news, the District 86 TAX Referendum failed by a wide margin, but the entire Downers Grove Township team (including GREG BOLTZ for Assessor) was elected.  Surrounding us, Mayor Frank Trilla ran unopposed so he will serve a second term as mayor of Willowbrook and the Village President of HinsdaleTom Caulfield, was also re-elected.  However Mayor Alan Nowaczyk lost his race in Willow Springs to John Carpino and incumbent mayor of Orland ParkDan McLaughlin lost his race for re-election.  Further away and attracting national attention, my friend in BolingbrookMayor Roger Claar, still does not know the outcome for his re-election bid; currently he is 103 votes ahead (of 12,000 cast), but they have to wait until all absentee ballots which are due by April 18th.
“Meet the New Trustees” Party Held at Capri:
On Election Night, the circumstances of the unusual (unopposed) election enabled the Village Trustees and Plan Commissioners to do something never done before: Celebrate Together!  The primary reason was for everyone to “Meet the New Trustees”, but it was also a great opportunity to socialize and get to know each other outside the Board Room.  For the record, this was not at village expense: I was able to use campaign funds to pay for the drinks and the food was complimentary, thanks to Gigi, the owner of Capri Ristorante…and one of Burr Ridge’s newer residents.
Update on Expansion of the Illinois Tollway I-294: Steve Stricker, Doug Pollock, Dave Preissig and I met with Illinois Tollway officials this afternoon to further discuss the future of the Hinsdale Oasis and review our requests. According to their Deputy Chief of Engineering for Planning, they will “Do all they can to minimize impact” on the residents and improve any sound barriers.  There are no plans “set in stone” at this time, except for what they need to do to rebuild the Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge and the Mile-Long Bridge. There will be a Public Meeting at the Tollway Headquarters in Downers Grove on April 17th at 9:00 am.  (Please check their website for more information.)
Burr Ridge Family Excited about Daughter’s Win against Stanford: According to University of Utah’s Head Tennis Coach Mat Landolo at the, “Lexie Petrovic got a great win at the No. 1 position against the defending National Champions’ Stanford team!” In singles competition, Petrovic pulled out a difficult three-set win in the No. 1 spot over Caroline Doyle with a ten-point tie breaker, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.   It’s no wonder why Anne and Milan Petrovic of Burr Ridge are very proud of their daughter because “in tennis circles” that’s a HUGE WIN!  As a side note, Lexie and our daughter, Alysa, played tennis together (Singles and Doubles) at Nazareth Academy and qualified for State all four years.

Upcoming: On Monday, the Village Board Meeting will be held at Village Hall and it will include a Public Hearing to discuss the Fiscal Year 2017-18 Budget and an Annexation Agreement of property on 91stStreet.  U. S. Congressman Peter Roskam will also attend to present something to me or the village...but I have no idea what it is!

Thank you again for allowing me to serve a second term and for your confidence.  Burr Ridge is certainly "A Very Special Place"!
Have a great week, Mayor Mickey
