Hello and welcome to the first Friday Wrap for 2018 which is the 243rd edition of The Friday Wrap! It started when I was the mayor-elect back in April of 2013; after summarizing the week’s events, I can still remember thinking, “As a resident, I’d love to hear about these events in the village!” Now you know the rest of the story.
Here is a link to this week's video of the Friday Wrap that was filmed in my company office: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlXJ4oY9f0k.
Village Board Meeting:
The quiet weeks in the village continue, but are about to pick up starting on Monday at 7:00 pm with our first Village Board Meeting of the year. Most items are on the Consent Agenda; up for consideration is the 2018 Road Program and the Request for 3 Model Home Permits for the Lakeside Pointe development by McNaughton Development that is adjacent to the Marriott.
Holiday Lights Recycling in Burr Ridge (+ Trees)
The Village of Burr Ridge is once again participating in the Holiday Lights Recycling Pro-gram. There will be a box at the outside of the Village Hall and at the Public Works Electronic Recycling site. You may deposit your unwanted holiday light strands in the box at any time. Light strands DO NOT need to be in working order. Please do not deposit anything other than light strands in the designated boxes - there is the electrical recycling outpost at Public Works for other electrical items. (Monday - Friday, 9 am to 3 pm at Public Works). Also, Groot will pick up their undecorated, stripped Christmas Trees on their regular pickup day as part of the new franchise agreement. You just need to leave it at the curb.
Annual State of the Village Address: January 10th , 2018
It’s that time of year again. On Wednesday, January 10th, I will be delivering the State of the Village Address at the Willowbrook/Burr Ridge Chamber of Commerce lunch along with Willowbrook Mayor Frank Trilla. It will be held at the Marriott Hotel in Burr Ridge at 12:00 noon.
In Other News: For you Starbucks frequenters, Sunday was a sad day as a few of us who were there for the last day for “Max”, one of the longest and best Starbucks Baristas! He moved and transferred to Florida; Jacksonville got a good one! On a more positive note, I had lunch at the Crowne Plaza this week and it was exceptional! I had the Salmon BLT sandwich, but the salads looked great, too!
Do you have any New Years Goals for 2018?
If you are setting new goals for 2018, I’d like to tell you about a book that I published last year that can help you achieve them. It’s called BIG GOALS…Short Deadlines and it outlines the 5 Habits of Success, a formula that I accidentally proved works for personal and Bucket List Goals (as well as professional ones) during the 50 Capitols in 50 Days trip done in honor of Abraham Lincoln and our veterans. It is available on Amazon at $16.00, but if you’d like a 25% discount, call 630-645-1SAM, stop by our SAM office at 15w256 N. Frontage Road in Burr Ridge or click here: BIG GOALS…Short Deadlines for Burr Ridge residents. (Coupon Code: Burr Ridge)
Campaign Update: Following the Golden Rule, it just didn’t seem appropriate to do any major campaigning between Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years since we all had more important thing to do. My campaign for State Representative in the 82nd District will begin this month and steadily ramp up until the March 20th Primary. You can be assured that we will be addressing the barrage of slanderous postcards being received by voters in the district in the coming weeks
Hope you had a Happy New Year’s celebration and may 2018 be your BEST YEAR EVER!
Mayor Mickey Straub
