Friday Wrap for July 7th, 2017

Welcome to the first Friday Wrap of the second half of the year…its July 7th, 2017! I just got back an hour ago from vacation and being out of town all week, but I did want to give you some quick updates. (Videos will continue next week.) Hope you enjoyed your Independence Day!!

Historic Moment in BR as Doug Pollock Takes New Role as Village Administrator:
There’s no way around it…this is a BIG DEAL!!  After almost 28 years and half the village’s life, Doug Pollock, our Director of Community Development for 21 years…assumed his new role as Village Administrator!
On Monday, I had the pleasure of spending part of Doug Pollock’s first day at the helm as he made plans to put his mark on the Village and Village Hall.  A couple of the offices will or have been re-arranged, including his, as he moved into the corner office.  New efficiencies and technology could also be expected in the future, as he and Assistant Village Administrator Evan Walter, as they get deeper into their new roles.  Burr Ridge star continues to rise!
Upcoming Village Meetings:

  • Monday – Village Board Meeting will be on Monday, July 10th at 7:00 pm in Village Board Room
  • Tuesday – Police Pension Board to meet on July 11th in Village Hall Conference Room
  • Board of Fire and Police Commissioners are set to meet on July 12th
  • The final Waste Hauler Meeting to distribute information to residents will be held at Village Hall Board Room on July 12th at 7:00 pm.

Mayor Goes for Writing Sabbatical to The American Club:
After my wife and I visited the Kohler Spa to see where it all started and to the American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin last summer, I couldn’t help but feel the patriotism and love of country! So, when I was looking to take a brief writing sabbatical to work on the book about my patriotic trip (50 Capitols in 50 Days), that’s where I chose…especially after seeing their Lincoln Library across from the registration desk.  Now I understand why this this venue is so relaxing and inspirational to anyone who wants to learns about this amazing American Success Story.
But one of my biggest surprises was meeting two golfing couples who came as far away as New York City and San Francisco to celebrate their wedding anniversaries by playing at Kohler’s world class Whispering Straits Golf Course.  The other shock came just minutes before we left for home when we serendipitously met, the woman who was in charge of building and opening the Kohler Spa in Burr Ridge back in 2007-8.  Jean Kolb has since retired, but what a coincidence…Wow!!
It was also great to celebrate 4th of July up there…and also see the World’s Tallest American Flag pole (400 feet)  just a mile away in front of a company called Acuity Insurance in Sheboygan.

That's a Wrap...have a patriotic week!
