The FRIDAY WRAP for June 8th, 2018

Hello and welcome again to the Friday Wrap for June 8th, 2018!  As usual, there was a lot happening in our "Very Special Place" this week!  Hope you're doing well!

DESIGN BAR Grand Opening a BIG Success!
The new Design Bar was a very popular place last weekend, as they held their Grand Opening celebration!  It is estimated that they had over 700 visitors, going by the amount of food that they served over the two-day event which ended with a private party held on Saturday evening. They are now located on the Village Green with 7000 square feet of incredible displays!

Annual 5K Run/Walk Held in Burr Ridge:
The Annual 5K Run/Walk was held last Saturday morning thanks to the efforts, as always, of Suzanne Gray, owner of Right Fit. The festivities concluded with awards and a special performance by a local karate school and it’s reported they had a record attendance. The beneficiary of this year’s event was Charlie’s Gifts, located in Community House of Hinsdale; they serve the needs of autistic children and their families.

More Celebrities Visit Burr Ridge:
Almost a dozen Hall of Famers and sports legends dined last Saturday at Capri Ristorante!  It was an honor and a pleasure to meet Tommy Lasorda, Bobby ValentineEd MarinaroDan Pastorini and also Boom Boom Mancini among others.  They were all in town for a Celebrity Golf Outing, but came here to eat at one of their favorite restaurants: Capri!  Kudos Gigi and Capri Staff!!

Chamber Holds Business Expo:
The Willowbrook/Burr Ridge Chamber of Commerce held their monthly luncheon and annual Business Expo at Ashton Place on Wednesday.  There were a record number of booths for members and residents to peruse including everything from banks, real estate and health care offices to the Secretary of State, Willowbrook and Burr Ridge Villages and Burr Ridge resident Bill Durkin's unique company called One Positive Place.  It is a great place to meet and learn about a lot of local businesses all-in-one place. Thank you Chamber!!

Important Topics on Agenda for Monday’s Board Meeting:
The Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Board of Trustees will be held on Monday, June 11th at 7:00 pm and will include two important topics: McDonald’s & Video Gambling.  The proposed McDonald’s has been met with mixed reactions due to concern over traffic and safety; the Ordinance will get a final vote on Monday.  Also, Video Gambling / Gaming has been requested by a few restaurants and the village has been studying it for a couple of months.  A Consideration for approval will be discussed on Monday.  If you feel strongly one way or the other, you can voice your opinion on Monday evening…or via email to me, the Village Administrator or any Trustee.

ComEd / Power Outages Draws Criticism by Multiple Businesses:
Village Staff and many Business Owners and Managers met with ComEd representatives at the Village Hall this morning to find out the why their Burr Ridge businesses have experienced multiple power outages in recent months.  There was spirit of cooperation in the board room, but Phil HaliburtonExternal Affairs Manager got to hear first hand that the outage over Memorial Day weekend cost our businesses probably in excess of $100,000 of lost revenue alone.   ComEd is to further analyze the history and issues and is expected to meet here again with possible solutions.
