Friday Wrap for March 17, 2017

Welcome to the Friday Wrap for March 17th, 2017! Happy St. Patrick’s Day…I hope you have or had some time to have some fun!  This has been a very busy week in the village with meetings daily on a variety of topics.  Here are the highlights!

The Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Board of Trustees was held on Monday night and ten (10) items were on the Consent Agenda.  Approved were two resolutions to oppose House and Senate Bills regarding the proliferation of cell towers, the Recommendation to Award the Contract for the 2017 Road Program (that has been discussed for 4 months) and ComEd Tree Trimming. Tabled was the discussion of the owners of the McGraw Hill building to expand their parking lot by about 60%, from the 500 to 800 range of parking spaces.  This will be discussed further at the next board meeting.  Also expected to be up for discussion and debate is a request to put No Parking Signs on Steepleside Drive near Trinity Lutheran Church.
The longest discussion was Regarding Possible Widening of I-294 and the impact that it might or might not have on Burr Ridge.  About Tartan Ridge 20-25 residents were in attendance who offered some great suggestions to add to the letter we drafted to the Illinois Tollway (See attached).  At this point in time, the Tollway Authority is still in “explorative and listening” mode and we are unaware of any specific plans, but will keep everyone up-to-date as we obtain more information.
Illinois Mobile Drivers Facility…was in Burr Ridge:  As planned, the Jesse White’s Secretary of State’s Mobile Driver’s Facility was at the Village Hall on Wednesday.  We had two vehicle stickers that were eligible for renewal and it such a convenient way to go and I’m not surprised that one of the SOS employees told me that Burr Ridge is their most popular location…Kudos BR!  It was steady all day and I saw at least a dozen residents that I recognized…and wish that I could have stayed longer!
Mayor of Lahore, Pakistan visits Burr Ridge: Thanks to the connections of Burr Ridge resident Dr. Mubarak Mirjat, I had a very special guest at Village Hall on Wednesday!  After 25 years in the military, Colonel (retired) Mubashir Javaid is now the Mayor of Lahore, Pakistan, a city of 12 Million people. (That was quite humbling…since he’s in a whole other league…Wow!) Mayor Javaid came to Illinois and met with Mayor Rahm Emanuel and others to promote and encourage more economic dealings with his city and country…as well as its beauty.

SAVE-THE-DATE: With the election just around the corner, I decided to do a Fundraiser/Meet & Greet on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Though I have no opponents this time, it's necessary to offset other mayoral expenses, like the website, administration, supporting local candidates and causes as well as production of The Friday Wrap, for which we can hopefully spread circulation and produce a video more frequently in the future.  Please stop by to say hello if you get a chance: Capri Ristorante from 5:30-7:30 pm, March 30th.
On a Personal Note…
Last weekend we went to see our daughters’ (UWM) Tennis Team play that of NIU who went to Milwaukee to compete in a pre-conference match; UWM won 5-2.  The Lynch family (Joy and Bethany) also came over the house for a kind of “Reunion and Celebration”…now that our daughters are both about to graduate and received as well accepted two great job offers! (Seems like yesterday when they started grade school together and playing tennis!)
Have a blessed week!
