Friday Wrap for March 24, 2017

Welcome to the Friday Wrap for March 24th, 2017 and Wow…can you believe this weather?!  Here is a link to this week's video which was filmed this evening at the Starbucks in Willowbrook:

Regular Board Meeting of the Mayor and Trustees: The Board Meeting will be held on Monday night and the owners of the McGraw Hill Building have asked for their parking variation request (adjacent to the 1000 Village Center Building) to once again be tabled. First on the agenda per the village administrator is a “Consideration of Recommendation (from Mayor Mickey Straub) to Appoint Joseph T. Snyder to Fill the Unexpired Term of Former Trustee Paula Murphy”. Also expected to be re-considered is a request to put No Parking Signs on Steepleside Drive near Trinity Lutheran Church after lines of communication were opened.

I-294 UPDATE: As far as the Illinois Tollway’s plans to Widen I-294, we heard that discussions took place with the Governor about the future of the Hinsdale Oasis (see pic). There are no other updates at this time.

TRANSAMERICA AGENCY NETWORK Opens in Burr Ridge:
Moving from the Oakbrook Terrace Tower, the TRANSAMERICA opened up a new agency in Burr Ridge.  They held an Open-House in cooperation with the Willowbrook/Burr Ridge Chamber of Commerce and it was very well attended my members and resident alike.  It was great to also see their management team, Marx Jones, Jeffrey Hammond, Angela Williams and Basil Diab at the insurance conference (LAMP 2017) held in Washington D.C. earlier in the week!

Highline Auto Sales Moves to Willowbrook:
The owners of Highline Auto Sales looked for months for a location in Burr Ridge, but could not locate the right facility.  They are now fully operational with a sales showroom in Willowbrook (see pic), but they retained their space for auto repair and detailing in an unincorporated section of Burr Ridge behind B&E Auto Repair/U-Haul.  One bright spot of this is that both the owners of the business (The Barakat Family) and the owner of their new building…are both Burr Ridge residents.

Burr Ridge Resident Enters Mrs. Illinois America Pageant:
This week I received a call from the organizer, Joe Aceto, to inform me that, for the first time ever, a Burr Ridge resident has entered the Mrs. Illinois America Pageant.  After being encouraged by her fitness instructor, Edyta Smolka has entered the Pageant to be held on April 15th in Elgin.  More details to follow.  (I also heard another “first” from her husband, Peter Smolka: that this is lowest amount of snow accumulation in recorded history so far this season! And Peter should know since he owns Everest Snow Management, Inc.)

Fundraiser & THANK YOU Party…at CAPRI next Thursday!
The official email invitations went out today for my Fundraiser and THANK YOU Party to be held at Capri to past supporters to be held on Thursday, March 30th from 5:30-7:30 pm.  While financial support is appreciated to offset mayoral expenses, i.e. Website, Campaign and producing the Friday Wrap, I’m encouraging everyone to stop by to say hello, share ideas and see friends.

On a Personal Note…
For the eighteenth year in a row, my company (Sales Activity Management, Inc.) attended the largest insurance leadership conference of the year called the “LAMP Conference” by GAMA International.  It was held at the Gaylord National just down the Potomac from Washington D.C.  I/we even gave out FREE BIG GOALS…Short Deadlines books to the first 500 attendees who stopped by the SAM booth!  And for the second flight in a row, I ran into Hinsdale resident Dr. Cheng at the airport, who was travelling with his daughter!

Have a beautiful week!
