Welcome to the Friday Wrap for March 9th, 2018!
National/International Event held near Burr Ridge:
It was quite amazing to learn how many dignitaries converged upon our area for what I thought was going to be a local, religious event. As I drove up and walked in, I quickly learned that a couple hundred people from Burr Ridge, across the area, and even from Washington D.C., came to participate in the Dawoodi Bohra Community of Chicago Celebration and International Women’s Day event. It was held at their mosque along Kingery Highway in unincorporated Dupage County and attended by several priests, pastors and religious leaders from the area. In addition to Congressman Peter Roskam (one of the main speakers) it was also attended by officials from the FBI, CIA, several local mayors including Frank Trilla(Willowbrook), Kathy Weaver (Darien) and Gopal Lalmalani (Oak Brook) and members of Tri-State Fire and the Naperville Police Department.
One of the keynote speakers for this International Women’s Day event was the Consul General of India-Chicago, Mrs. Neeta Bhushan, who is a career diplomat and has also served in Japan, Germany, Bangladesh and Dubai just to mention a few. The Consul General gave a very moving speech about women worldwide, especially of Indian origin, with enormous achievements in everything from medicine and business to becoming Olympic athletes, actors, singers and dancers, etc. I have always admired the Indian community’s commitment to faith, family, education and career, but what also stood out at this event was their love for friendship, community and America.
As a Reminder…
The Secretary of State’s Mobile Driver’s Facility will be at the Village Hall on Wednesday, March 14thfrom 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The driver’s services that SOS Mobile provides include vision screening, duplicate and/or corrected drivers’ licenses, new ID cards and even vehicle renewal stickers. It sure beats driving to the Lombard facility or elsewhere to get these things done!!
Village Center Skyline: I’ve always been curious how the Village Center looks from the top floor of the BMO Harris Bank Building, so I finally took a picture…enjoy!
Campaign Update: The progress and positive sentiment from this week has been amazing and we had events at Gelsosomo’s Pizzeria in Lemont and SCORE Fitness in Willow Springs! I also sent out my fourth and final campaign postcard to finally “Set the Record Straight”. (For the record, I did not approve nor request any anti-Durkin mailings.) I really don’t like to criticize even my opponent in public, but found it necessary to send out my own mailing to address the lies about me and the village.
Thank you to everyone who has given encouragement as we take on the establishment and career politicians. With a growing campaign team, we are more organized and focused than ever about getting people out to vote and spreading the message (and buttons): “Let’s make ILLINOIS Great Again”! That is, after all, what we need to do if we are to stem the tide of people leaving our state. Please vote March 20th!
Thanks and blessings,
Mayor Mickey Straub
