Hello…and welcome to the Friday Wrap for September 21st, 2018! Here’s the wrap-up of Burr Ridge news, events and progress for the week.
Festival of Faiths Event Held at Zoroastrian Center:
This was another first in Burr Ridge: An Inter-faith Gathering among religious leaders to improve dialogue and have a panel discussion on harmony and justice, topics that Pope John Paul II frequently called us to live in. Organized by Mr. Roh Rivetna of the Zoroastrian Center on Meadowbrook Drive, it was preceded with a Planting Ceremony for each of those organizations that preside in the Route 83 Religious Community including Bohra Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Muslim and Zorastrian. Also included in the ceremonies was St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Church represented by Father Theodore and Dr. & Mrs. Refaat Malek of Burr Ridge. It was an honor to be asked to open the event with welcoming remarks.
Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing Held:
Burr Ridge residents and businesses were well represented at the Willowbrook/Burr Ridge Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing Held at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club this week. It was another great success!
Mayor Attends Illinois Municipal League (IML) Meeting:
Attended by hundreds of Illinois Mayors, Village Managers, Attorneys and Staff as well as an equal number of vendors and service providers, the Annual IML Conference, held downtown, was a great event to see old friends, make new ones and learn about everything from legislation and human resources to new products and best practices, etc. I’m so glad that I attended and hope the Village gets even more involved with the IML in the future!
Of course, I had another reason to attend…to hear Burr Ridge’s very own BO JACKSON! I have had the pleasure of talking with our most famous resident many times, but I’ve never heard him deliver a Keynote Speech or speak so much about his mother, childhood and family. Vincent Edward “Bo” Jackson was absolutely riveting, genuine, humorous, humble, inspirational and one of the best speakers that I’ve ever heard!
The Village staff and I have been monitoring this situation closely and are working with the Village of Willowbrook, the Illinois EPA, the USEPA, and other agencies. I find great comfort in knowing that the ATSDR has determined that there is no immediate public health threat from the Sterigenics facility in Willowbrook. I am also confident that if that should ever change, the ATSDR and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) would take immediate action to protect the public health.
As I was preparing this summary, I received an update from Sterigenics as follows:
As part of our commitment to the safety and well-being of our employees and the community, Sterigenics engaged a third-party, independent tester to confirm ethylene oxide (EO) emission reductions achieved by the voluntary equipment upgrade at our Willowbrook, Illinois facilities. The two-day testing was conducted on September 20 and 21, 2018 using test equipment, a test protocol and methodology approved by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (ILEPA).
To ensure transparency in the process, representatives were present from ILEPA, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Tri-State Fire Department and the Village of Willowbrook. The Result: existing control systems at Willowbrook already were fully compliant with strict EPA and ILEPA limits and the preliminary test results demonstrate that the upgrades exceeded the anticipated improvement. A report will be forthcoming.

This is the only political candidate that I will be supporting for the November election. (Please see attached!)
